Green Hydrogen - a Global Value Chain of Business Opportunities

18 October 2022| Hotel W Santiago, Santiago de Chile

Participation in the FICHTNER Forum Hydrogen 2022 is possible both on-site and virtually. Registration for this is necessary and possible until October 04, 2022.
During the livestream it will be possible to ask questions. They will be summarized by the moderator and brought into the discussion.

The goal of net zero by 2050 means that a complete transformation of our world’s economy will take place in the next two and a half decades. At the center of this de-velopment is the implementation of a new, carbon-neutral chemical energy source: hydrogen. Investments of hundreds of billions dollar just in this sector have been an-nounced in the last few years. And humanity wants to fulfill the goal of net zero, these large sums are only the first step.

But how does this new market function? For companies and governments it is essential to understand the drivers, players and different perspectives along the hydrogen value chain in order to make good decisions and get the most out of the opportunities that present themselves in these exceptional times.

Fichtner has been at the forefront of the development of hydrogen with more than 60 projects in 20 countries in the last three years. From this experience, we have formed a clear view of the world of hydrogen. With Fichtner Forum Hydrogen, we aim to give the participants a chance to see the hydrogen world through the eyes of ourselves and leading players along the entire value chain. This way, we hope to increase the mutual understanding between all parts of the hydrogen value chain and create a clear picture of the things to come.

Confirmed speakers include: Ministry of Energy Chile, Marubeni/GasValpo, Actis, ThyssenKrupp, CAP and GIZ.

09:30 am Welcome and Registration

10:00 am Opening

  • Welcome speech

Matthias Schlegel, Head of Hydrogen, Fichtner GmbH & Co. KG

10:15 am Session 1: The market – hydrogen consumers

Hydrogen has been used in the chemical industry for decades. But new applications in other sectors and new production methods are expected to fundamentally transform the landscape. Also, entire countries like Germany, Japan and Korea are formulating strategies for the import of hydrogen to decarbonize their energy systems. The speakers in this session will help participants find answers to questions like: What is the view of different industries and countries regarding hydrogen? Which are the most promising fields for the use of hydrogen in the near and mid-term future? What is a realistic timeline for large-scale production and use of hydrogen?

  • Keynote: Chile's view on hydrogen

Aims and strategy of Chile in hydrogen / Policy and hydrogen roadmap of the Chilean government

German Market Approach and Policy towards Green Hydrogen

  • Hydrogen as a global commodity – export opportunities for Chile

    Rodrigo Vásquez Torres, GIZ

View on the developing global value chain / German as a key off taker for Chile

02:00 pm Session 2: The supply – hydrogen production

Green hydrogen presents the opportunity to export the world’s best renewable energy resources to countries all over the world. Public perception often is that technologies like electrolysis or green ammonia production are still under development. This view often slows the development of projects down. Therefore, we have invited industry leaders that will talk about their proven track record, their view of the market and achievable hydrogen production cost.

  • Green hydrogen projects on a global scale

View of the hydrogen world and energy system of the future / Current projects

  • Green Hydrogen and Ammonia Technology

Paulo Alvarenga, CEO thyssenkrupp South America

Explanation of today’s technology and technology readiness / Role of green ammonia in enabling a worldwide market

  • Hydrogen as a global commodity - opportunities for Chile

    Jorge Matamala Bozzo, GasValpo

Green hydrogen blending in natural gas distribution networks

  • An investor’s view into Hydrogen

    Hernan Arrigone, Actis

Where do we see opportunities? What is required for a financial investor?
